Vital- Evaluation

Overall, I have enjoyed this brief and I am happy with the final outcome, however at times the client has been difficult to work with. This is the first time I have worked on fashion branding so I researched a lot into other brands and fashion branding that is already out there. I found that with a lot of fashion branding that it was quite simple, instantly recognisable and usually works well in black and white. Looking into street-wear brands and Haute couture has inspired me thought this brief.

After researching into other brands it was time to think of a name for this new fashion brand that Sian wanted to create. This was probably the most annoying part of the whole brief, it took Sian a fair few weeks to decide on a name and she wanted me to develop the logo with no name which was pretty impossible. After a lot of messaging I decided to meet with Sian at home. Meeting with Sian was a useful point of the project sharing ideas on our laptops the research she had done and I had done, we both realised that we wanted the same look. After much discussion about the name Sian decided she either wanted to go with the name Dynamic or Vital in the end I chose to go with Vital as it is a shorter word and more snappy.

Once the name had been decided on I started to put the brand guidelines together and develop the logo. The logo didn’t need to be anything fancy, Sian didn’t want a hand drawn look and seemed to be drawn to brands in capital letters and block type. I put a selection of type and experimented how it would work across the brand, I sent Sian a selection of logos to choose from and we eventually whittled it down.

Sian was quite decisive about the colour of the brand, kept simple with black and white with an added feminine touch with the baby pink. These colours are quite on trend at the moment with that in mind the black and white is there for the pink to change colour at any time to keep up with the latest fashion trend or season.

Once the logo, colour and pattern was decided on I started to develop and design the printed material of the brand, the business cards, letterheads, envelopes etc. Sian knew she wanted the swing tags to consist of layers so I explored that further. To make the brand feel more expensive and of quality I decided to foil the type on the business cards, some of the foiled business cards came out better than others. I used GF Smith paper in candy pink throughout the branding to remain consistent. The back of the business cards were designed separately in black and white. In the future if Sian does still wants more business cards and will be buying in bulk she has the option to keep the costs down by keeping everything black and white and the pink would continue throughout online. As I have not used much colour in the brand everything I have designed can be made quite cheaply in the future.
