Briefs!

Here are my 6 briefs so far, I don't have 10 yet purely because I am waiting for more competition briefs to be realised such as YCN and D and AD. We put our briefs together and passed them round the room for people to write on them and leave us feedback. The briefs that I am doing so far are:

• Cheese society- as the vice present of the cheese society and the graphic designer it will be my duty to do all of the branding for the society.

• Penguin books- I enjoyed creating a screen printed book cover last year for a brief so this year I will enter the Penguin books competition to design the cover of a book.

• Sheet- Sheet is urban outfitters magazine and they are requesting for submissions for their christmas wrapping paper edition.

• The death of subculture- A friend on fashion is wanting to collaborate with me for her COP practical, all about the death of subculture this will include screen prints and designing for different eras.

• Creative Networks- A competition with the opportunity to design for each guest speaker we have in college this year.

• Fashion Branding for Sian Sweet- my friend from home wanting their fashion branding designing, however she seems quite confused on what she wants so I think ill be writing her a brief outlining what I want to do.

I'm excited to start on these briefs and I have been given some useful feedback on them today. I think the next step is to work out a time frame for them all, work out which ones need to be done first and which ones will need more time.

UO Sheet- Research

Marylou Faure

Add a pop of colour to your January with the bright and bold works of Parisian illustrator, Marylou Faure. Having completed a master’s degree in Digital and Graphic Design in Paris, Marylou hopped over the channel to the UK where she now lives and works in London. We love this pastel themed series titled ‘The Ultimate Summer’

Tyler Spangler

Tyler Spangler’s work focuses on the formalist relationship between images removed from their orginal context. He explores the connotations of colour, form, and photography through the medium of digital collage. His designs are colourful and unabashedly chaotic. Over the last three years,Tyler has created six 440 paged books filled with his own designs and worked on countless co.

Eugenia Loli

Eugenia Loli originated in the technology sector, but she left that impersonal world behind in order to build new, exciting worlds via her art. Her collages, with the help of the title, often include a teasing, visual narrative, as if they’re a still frame of a surreal movie. The viewers are invited to make up the movie’s plot in their mind.

Damien Tran

One half of Berlin-based print studio Palefroi, Damien Tran spends his days creating lo-fi gig posters for the various trendy happenings in his hometown. Using the ancient art of wielding shedloads of skill to make something look really easy (see ice skating, playing drums and football), Damien’s posters are a lot more intricate than they seem, and pleasingly stray away from the classic gig poster aesthetic we so often see. His style is so recognisable that I don’t doubt there are a few people in Berlin collecting the posters by him that they see fluttering on billboards in the cold wind, I know I’d nick that Micachu one if I could.

Ronny Hunger

Ronny Hunger (also known under the alias Comet Substance) is a Swiss graphic designer, screen printer and an active member of the DIY scene. He began designing posters for the small music venue Elmo Delmo in Zurich in 2013. His technical drawing background is prevalent in his work, and his penchant for collage is undeniable – the images lifted from their original context and used to capture each bands identity.

Cheese Society- Leaflet, FB Header and Freshers Fair

This is the leaflet for this years cheese society, it features hand drawn type with the names of each event that is coming up this year. The leaflet features three key colours of the cheese society. The most difficult thing about creating this leaflet was the amount of information but still making it look decretive and readable. As all of the other posters ever created used hand drawn type I did the same for this, I am not that happy with the way the type has turned out but I was working to a deadline and couldn't improve it any further.

This is the new Facebook header featuring a cheese pun, the header uses all the colours out of the leaflet.

The freshers fair went really well and we got over 100 people to sign up, we will now e-mail the people interested with each up coming event.

Cheese Society- Colour and Type

This year to keep all the designs consistent me and Hollie (cheese president) have decided on a colour palate, we still want the cheese society to be colourful, I have realsied from looking back at previous designs that less is more, not all the colours will be used in every poster but I feel there is enough colours there to experiment with.

In terms of type I have chosen to use Avenir on the leaflets for the dates, this type may change on other posters however Avenir is a good type to use as it is bold, readable and clear.
